Femi Fani-Kayode has described as shameful the statement credited to the Chairman of the Northern Elders Forum, Paul Unongo, accusing former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of sponsoring Fulani herdsmen.
Clashes between nomadic herdsmen and farmers has taken on a new dimension in Nigeria in recent times with the herdsmen causing havoc across many farming communities in Nigeria, the most recent being the killing of scores on new year day in Benue state.
Unongo had accused Atiku of being the highest financier and influence in Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association, the group that has threaten fire and brimstone over the introduction of the Anti-Open Grazing law in Benue State.
Reacting to the accusation on his Twitter page on Tuesday, Fani-Kayode wrote: “It is shameful that whilst his people are being slaughtered like flies by the Fulani, Chief Paul Unongo, a man that I have always liked and respected, will point fingers at VP Atiku, one of the few Fulani leaders who has openly condemned the genocidal activities of the herdsmen.”
“Garus Gololo, leader of the Fulani terrorists in Benue, says his people carried out the massacres yet he walks free.
“Again the terrorists had the guts to say that the genocide and ethnic cleansing in Benue will not end until Benue changes its grazing laws. Can u believe that?” he added.
